10 Days Tanzania Bush and Beach Experience

(10 days / 9 nights)

10 Days Tanzania Bush and Beach Experience

Delve into the uncharted wilds of Tanzania on this wildlife focused African adventure combing the pounding hooves of the Serengeti migration, the roaring lions of remote Ruaha and the underwater beauty of the Indian Ocean. Breaking away from Tanzania's traditional northern route, our itinerary combines the best of the north with rugged new wildlife frontiers in the south. Ruaha National Park contains 10% of the world’s lion population and remains one of the least explored and largest national parks in Africa. From our remote eco-camp you’ll enjoy daily game drives and walks through tumbling granitic kopjes, grasslands punctuated with enormous Baobabs and riverine woodlands to see record numbers of lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog who roam this untouched wildlife refuge.

Trip Highlights

Kilimanjaro, » Northern Serengeti, » Ruaha National Park, » Pemba Island, » Dar Es Salaam / Departure

  • Arrive in Kilimanjaro

Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport where you’ll be met after passing through customs and driven to the Rivertrees Country Inn set in the serene foot hills of Mt. Meru. We highly recommend extending your stay by one extra night to help recover from jet lag and take advantage of some of the fun activities in the area such as canoeing on Lake Duluti or an easy mountain bike ride through the lush mountain scenery. Accommodation: Rivertrees Country Inn. Meals Included: Dinner

  • Fly to Serengeti National Park

Enjoy a beautiful scenic flight this morning, soaring over the Ngorongoro crater and rift valley escarpment on an expeditious route to the heart of the Serengeti National park. Break out your binoculars and begin your first game drive as you make your way to a Olakira Camp. This deluxe mobile safari camp follows the great migration throughout the year, so whenever you travel you’ll be perfectly poised to take in this ecological spectacle. From December – March the camp is located in the verdant and expansive short grass plains of the southern Serengeti. In February, thousands of new babies are born within a two week time period making this a particularly dynamic time to visit the area. From June – November the camp migrates to the very northern reaches of the park and takes a prime location near the Mara River where the migration make their perilous crossing to the Kenyan side of the border with crocodiles nipping at their heels. Each day you’ll have the option of an early morning game drive and a picnic breakfast, or leaving a bit later and taking your lunch with you. Longer game drives enable you to visit different areas of the Serengeti looking for struggles between predator and prey or the chance to watch interactions between different families of elephants. Look for elephant belly rumbles as they greet each other, or witness lion cubs doing somersaults as they chase their litter mates. Touching the earth lightly, this canvas camp all but disappears into the surrounding bush. Eight wonderful en-suite tents ensure an intimate and authentic wilderness experience.
Accommodation: Olakira Camp. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • Full Day Serengeti national Park

Immerse yourself in the Great Migration at Olakira Migration Camp. You’ll feel the earth vibrate during winter crossings of the brave wildebeest as they face the mighty rivers in the north, or be moved by the mass summer calving on the south’s grassy plains.

Olakira follows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park, as well as the Ndutu region. Home from December to March, is in the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area), game drives cover both the NCA itself and the southern Serengeti, allowing for frequent sightings of big cats, elephant, buffalo and the more elusive African wild dog. As the dry days of winter arrive, Olakira relocates north to the confluence of the Mara and Bolongonja rivers for spectacular game viewing at the Mara River itself.
Accommodation: Olakira Camp. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • Full Day Serengeti national Park

Venture out on morning and afternoon game drives in the protected Serengeti refuge, where flowing rivers support a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles. In addition to the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos), keep your camera handy for a cheetah bolting after a fleet Thomson’s gazelle. Enjoy ideal game viewing throughout your time in the bush.
Accommodation: Olakira Camp. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • Ruaha National Park

Considered one of the undiscovered wildernesses of East Africa, Ruaha fans out from the Ruaha River, the lifeline of the park. This massive national park is the largest in Tanzania at over 20,000 km2 and is even larger than the Kruger National Park in South Africa. It also hosts an estimated 10% of the lions in the world as well as boasting the world’s third largest population of wild dogs. It is one of the few areas with a sustainable population of cheetah left in E. Africa. In addition to the staggering number of unique predators, the varying topography of rocky granitic outcrops “kopjes”, majestic baobabs, and expansive grassland plains are home to species not found in northern Tanzania parks including sable, roan, and greater and lesser kudu.
Accommodation and Meals: Kwihala Tented Camp

  • Full Day Ruaha National Park

Kwihala Tented camp is in one of the best locations within the national park, perfectly situated between the Mwagusi Sand River and the Mwagusi Valley. This section of the national park is at the core of the national park, where the game density is particularly concentrated. Kwihala Camp will be your deluxe outpost from which to explore the vast surroundings. With only 6 tented camps the experience offers an intimate and unfettered wilderness experience best suited for the true safari traveler. The park becomes a different world after the rains in December with trees erupting into leaf and the Great Ruaha River swelling to bursting. Keep your eyes open for leopard, lion, buffalo, impala, warthog and cheetah and look for elephants passing through camp.
Accommodation and Meals: Kwihala Tented Camp

  • Full Day Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is a fantastic place for those with a thirst for for blood to see predators and prey interacting as they have for millennia. When the Great Ruaha River dwindles during the dry season, the park's herds of impala and waterbuck must risk life and limb to get a sip of life-giving water. There to take advantage of this are large prides of lions as well as the solitary but no less lethal cheetah and leopards who call the park home.

The park is also a great place to see the diversity of Tanzania's antelope population, with the Africa's largest population of greater kudu calling the park home alongside other antelope of all shapes and sizes. Over 10,000 elephants call the park home, and the park's trees and skies are also home to more than 430 species of birds as well.

  • Fly to Pemba Island

Fly over the coast of Tanzania to the quiet Indian Ocean island of Pemba. Kick off your shoes and relax in a hammock watching the wind blow over the water and the dhow fishing boats sail by. The next few days are yours to do as little or as much as you like. Snorkeling, diving (at additional cost), fishing sailing on a dhow are all options for leisure. Retire at night to your private seafront villa and drift off to the sound of waves lapping the shore. One of your nights you’ll have the option of sleeping out in the Underwater Room – a private room anchored off shore. Sunbathing by day, wondering at the Milky Way after dark and falling asleep with 360 degree underwater views of the Indian Ocean are what make this the most exclusive room in all of Africa! There is no finer way to finish your African adventure! Accommodations: Manta Resort and the Underwater Room. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • The Manta Resort Experience

Pemba is a rare gem. A remote tropical and pristine island off the east coast of Africa, untouched by mass tourism. Home to compassion, simplicity and time. But simplicity does not necessarily exclude luxury. Or as we call it – “real luxury”. The Manta Resort is situated at the northern tip of the island. It is for the dedicated, the true explorers with an urge to find a home where there is heart and purpose. It is for those who will endure the extra bumpy mile to discover a haven of non-polluted serenity, of silence, solitude and inclusion. Where you are greeted as family, not as a stranger or a tourist. A different reality, closer to nature, closer to the true you. A home of friendliness, sunshine, natural food, superior service, fresh air, diving in crystal clear waters and timeless existence. A five-star retreat at the end of the road you are about to take.

  • Full Day Exploration of Pemba Island

Pemba Island has been separated from the mainland of Tanzania and Zanzibar for decades, leaving an untouched and pristine island of great beauty and fertility. The mosaic of forests, swamps, mangroves, hidden beaches and lagoons is scattered with the ruins of mosques and tombs mostly reclaimed by the forest – sites that date back to Arab domination when Pemba Island was seized by the Sultan of Muscat (Oman) in the 17th century. He loved the Spice Islands and established his court in Zanzibar and ruled Muscat from there.

Switch off your noisy, pressurised, polluted electronic world and enter a completely different one – not as a tourist, but as a sentient human being with simple needs – sunshine, fresh sweet-smelling air, natural food, a pristine comfortable bed and friendly company to care for you and yours. All to be found folded into the edge of a primitive forest and set on rising land overlooking the purest, most turquoise waters that ever caught your breath – these waters hide secrets of the most exquisite kind – coral reefs unspoilt – and they are fringed by snow white, delicately soft sand on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
